Deb's Detailed Bio: Deborah Erbach Burger is a “retired” homeschooling mom. Before they all left for college, marriage and adult life, Deb educated her four children mainly at home for 21 years. Her children include one with a chronic neurological disorder, and 4 very different learning styles, so creativity and flexibility became important skills as a home schooling parent. Following a divorce, she experienced home schooling as a single parent for the last 4 years of the home school journey. She keeps her “oar in the water” in her own family, advising and encouraging in the home education of her grandchildren. Since 1998, Deb has been a popular speaker on a variety of topics at conferences and support groups throughout the Carolinas, East TN, Northern GA, and southern VA. These have included both NCHE and SCHEA conventions. She enjoys traveling to provide encouragement to support groups and smaller conferences as well as the big statewide conventions. In 2001, Deb joined the late Wendy Coleman in a partnership called Carolina Educational Resources, Inc., which provided annual testing services, a premier group tutorial service, and an organized approach to conference speaking. Since Wendy’s promotion to heaven, Deb has continued with tutoring small groups of middle and high school aged students, testing and providing learning style analysis, and presenting workshops for parent and teen groups. Her husband, Don Burger, travels with her providing moral support and box-carrying services. Deb is the author of one book, Growing Great Writers, a number of shorter booklets (the basis for many of these articles), and a literature study guide series for 10th to 12th graders. She is also available for support groups/ conference workshops. Deb’s newest offering to the home school community is an Essay Evaluation service. Many parents and teens are concerned with preparing for the essays required on college admission tests. Deb’s service includes corresponding with a student, and evaluation/correction for a series of essays, aimed at that preparation and confidence for testing.
