My Favorite Advantage of Homeschooling

My favorite advantage of homeschooling has to be flexibility. Even with all the other benefits to homeschooling, this is one that can apply across several different areas.

There are several areas where homeschooling provides flexibilty.

1. Homeschool Scheduling - Vacation times are set by you, not the school board. Appointments/extra curricular lessons don't have to be scheduled after school hours. If you live in a very hot climate, school can be done in August when nobody wants to be outside in the middle of the day anyway. If your spouse works odd shifts, your kids can adjust their work time so they get to spend time with that parent. If you child excels in a sport or hobby that requires a large amount of practice and/or travel time, academics can be worked on as their schedule allows.

2. Homeschool Curriculum - You can choose a homeschool curriculum that fits your child's learning style and your education goals. Many parents have sat at the kitchen table "reteaching" a skill that the school textbook explained but not in a way the child could understand. This can be a rare occurance with the right curriculum. Learning experiences can be extended with games, projects, and field trips.

3. Pace of Instruction - You can take the time to review material that is difficult for your child to ensure mastery. You can skim/skip material that your child has fully mastered and work instead on learning new skills.
