Bob Jones English grades 2-7

For the past few years, my family has used Bob Jones English in our Elementary classes. Bob Jones does a great job of teaching the basics of English and Grammar even at the earliest levels. In second grade we learned about many different parts of speech, proper capitalization, punctuation, and writing paragraphs.
One thing that I really love about Bob Jones is the integration of writing into the English program. Even at the second grade level, every other chapter is a writing chapter. Even in the second grade we learned how to write a fictional story, a research report, poetry, and descriptions.
As the children get older, the material becomes more challenging. They begin to add in more parts of speech and more complicated grammar. Yet, the explanations are very clear.
The pages are very colorful, with lots of illustrations. My daughters really enjoy the fact that all the practice sentences are centered around an interesting topic. So while they are doing workbook pages, they are learning interesting facts as well.
The teacher's manual includes scripted teaching lessons, along with all the answers to the workbook pages. Additionally, they include a CDROM that has extra practice pages that can be printed off for the student that needs the practice. Instead of purchasing a separate test/quiz booklet, I print pages for my students to use as tests and quizzes from this CDROM.
We really like BJUP English up through grade 6. However, starting in grade 7, the format changes. The lessons are not as clearly marked, so my independent learner needed more help figuring out what one days' work would be. For this reason, I will not be using BJUP English for any higher level than grade 6. The content was still solid, but we needed something more appropriate for an independent learner.
I would highly recommend Bob Jones English for anyone needing a program for grades 2-6, but probably would not recommend it for above grade 6.
