Educational Travel

Vacation for homeschoolers

Educational travel is the ultimate homeschool field trip!

A recent homeschool forum topic was, "If money was not an issue, what curriculum would you use?"

My answer: "I'm WAY out there...but if you are serious about money being no object I'd use TRAVEL as our curriculum. We'd travel with kids in tow and globe trot the world to see in person what we've read about in books....Egypt, Greece, Italy, whale watching, jungle cruise, the Louvre..you get the idea. Meanwhile, we'd read great literature on our flights. Math...hmmm...maybe my husband would help. Alas, that won't be happening unless we win the lottery -even then it probably would be enough money-but it's fun to dream."

So, we haven't been on a world tour, but we have had some pretty educational vacations and field trips. I've shared a few of them below.

Whether it's around your hometown or around the world from you, homeschoolers love to get out and see the world. The destination doesn't even have to be and outright "educational travel destination" like Washington DC, the Alamo, or Rome or Egypt. Any city or town you visit has history and new experiences to enhance your learning experience. We're great at finding deals, out of the way spots, and often overlooked experiences.

Why don't you share your story?

If you have a trip idea that can be generalized to more than one city or town (i.e. a veterinarian's office), we'd love for you to share it on our educational field trips page.

Do you like to learn new things when you travel?

Pay it forward! Share your educational travel experience with other homeschoolers. It could be a trip you took in your hometown or across the world from your hometown. You never know when a fellow homeschool traveler might visit the same place!

In addition to the description of your trip, you might like to include tips that might be of special interest to homeschool visitors. Pictures must be smaller than 800X600 pixels. Click the ? in the photo upload section for info on resizing.
