Homeschool Curriculum Reviews

A different perspective

Are you looking for homeschool curriculum reviews?

Be Careful!!

I have made SO many wrong choices based on written reviews (good and bad) and unquestioned recommendations or complaints from others.

Now I'm not saying you shouldn't read home school curriculum reviews. In fact, I include some on my site (here.) I am a believer in finding out all you can about a product before you spend you hard earned money on it. Keep in mind, written reviews can only give you so much information. Many are "paid" reviews, which to me defeats the purpose. Even if it is "fair and balanced" from an impartial reviewer, it lacks the interactive aspect of you being able to ask questions specific to your situation.

When I started homeschooing I felt pressure to get started quickly because we transitioned from public school to homeschool in the middle of the academic year. I bought all my materials based on glowing reviews and recommendations from "the experts."

Little by little, I realized the homeschool programs I had chosen were an awful fit for our family and by May of that year, I had scrapped it all.

Looking back, if I had spent time researching how my kids learn and how teach them best, I may have saved alot of time, money, and frustration.

I am happy to share what has and hasn't worked for our family (links to my reviews are here), but remind people that they need to do their own research and ask lots of questions. Someone else may have more experience homeschooling, but you are the "expert" on your children. Always keep an open mind when it comes to curriculum choice. With some subjects you may finde a resource that "clicks" right away. Even with the most diligent research, other subjects may be harder to decide on the perfect fit, and may result in the wrong decision. What should you do if you chose the wrong curriculum?

So, I WILL recommend that you check out the curriculum design page, read reviews (here's where to find some),don't blindly "take someone's word" when they recommend something, make a decision, but don't panic about making a curriculum mistake.

There are quality programs advertised on this site (some of which I personally use) but remember, it has to work for your family to be "great".
