There are many reading programs and curricula available for homeschool parents. I would recommend using a program that your child enjoys. The goal of your reading program should be teaching your child to read and then allowing them the opportunity to read to learn. As a homeschool parent you should read aloud to your child every day. Reading books aloud helps build comprehension skills. A young child's mind isn't preoccupied with decoding words and is therefore able to comprehend stories that are too difficult for them to read on their own. Continue to read aloud as your children get older. There is something calming about hearing someone else read. My husband and I often take turns on read aloud duty so the other can have the pleasure of listening. ![]() Preschool Reading - Activities for pre readers.
