Once-a-Week Unit Studies

by Sharon
(North Carolina)

Once-a-Week Unit Studies are well-rounded, comprehensive unit studies that totally immerse you and your family in a particular topic while incorporating a wide range of subject matter. They do a great job of including bible, science, history, language, geography, art, music, classic literature, and life skills throughout their 4-6 week unit studies.

One of the great things about these is that you don't have to go "all unit study" in your curriculum choices. You can keep using what you already use "taking a break" one day a week for some FUN! There are several unit studies available with new ones being introduced all the time ranging from science related studies like Birds, Trees and Horses to those that revolve around history like Early Settlers, Native America, Medieval Times, and Christmas.

Another great thing about Once-a-Week Unit Studies is that all the work has already been done for you! I have found many unit studies to be full of ideas, but still leave me having to do a lot of work in getting it all together. Once-a-Week Unit Studies guide you step-by-step with everything laid out, from the family devotionals and assignments to field trip suggestions and family movie, game or dinner nights.

Homeschool Legacy does a great job of making these fun for the whole family. Their mission is to bring the family together and make memories while having fun learning. There is an amazing selection of library books included with each unit study for kids of all ages and the activities are designed to be done by a variety of age groups (2nd-High School). There's even a library list for the little ones so that others in the family can read to them about the topic being studied and they can feel a part of all the fun.

One more really unique aspect of Once-a-Week Unit Studies is that they have been designed to be, as their web site states, "Boy Scout Friendly." They have made it possible for those with Boy Scouts in their families to enable them to earn merit badges while doing their school work! For instance, when the family is studying Native America they earn their Indian Lore Merit Badge or while they are studying Christmas Comes to America the scout is also earning his Music Merit Badge. They have thought of everything!
