Online Reading GamesOnline reading games are a fun way to practice reading skills especially with younger children. Here are links to some of the best reading games on the web. Please note: It is your responsibility to preview the games on these sites!! My children have played many of them, but sites change daily, so even if they have played before make sure you recheck each time. Make sure they are appropriate for your family before letting your children play! Most of the games require Shockwave or Java to be installed on your computer if you don't already have it. (You will be prompted to download them if you haven't already installed them on your computer.) These programs are safe and worth it. Readquarium - Phonics, comprehension, sight words, fluency, vocabulary, book reviews, links for teachers. It will take a few clicks through this site to get what you are looking for, but there is ALOT of information here. Kaboose - For ages 6+ Spelling, comprehension, grammar and more. Starfall - A parent favorite for pre-readers to beginning readers. Very colorful, engaging site. Dub Cubs - Games based on the popular PBS series Between the Lions Reading Is Fundemental (RIF) - Spelling, poetry, word puzzles Primary Games - Reading games for PK-4th grade. Word Blender - From the BBC, so the audio "speaks" with a British accent, but I don't think it would be too confusing for kids. Blending is such an important skill. Spelling City - spelling tests and games with your custom word list. Leave the online reading games page and return to the HBD Home page |
