Pentime Handwriting Program

by April
(Middle Tennessee)

My family uses the Pentime series of handwriting books almost every day. The main reason I picked these in the beginning was the cost. They are very inexpensive little workbooks, but upon receiving them I found that these workbooks would be a wonderful addition to our homeschool.

Starting in the first grade, these workbooks spend time showing the student how to make each letter correctly and each page provides plenty of practice. As the child gets older, they make the switch to cursive and the lines on the page get smaller and smaller. Every so often, the book includes a poem or section of scripture to copy onto a "border" page. These pages are suitable for inclusion in a portfolio.

It usually took my children between 10 and 20 minutes to complete a workbook page. For my younger children, they only would do half the page per day.

While they don't have colorful illustrations, there are some line drawings on almost every page. I have allowed my children in the past to color the drawings to brighten up their pages.

The selections for copy work many times include interesting topics. For instance, one year different types of birds were the focus and details about the birds were the topics for copy work.

While not a fancy program, this is a solid program. The value is excellent for the cost. I strongly recommend the Pentime Handwriting Program.
